Traify The Crab & Acai Berry Wheat

This past week, Elianna and I passed a significant milestone in our relationship – we’ve managed to keep our house plant alive for more than a week.  This is a big accomplishment for us – neither of us are gifted with a green thumb, and growing our own hops is out of the question. This is […]

‘Lil Opal

One of my favorite beers can currently be found on tap at Monk’s Kettle: Firestone Walker’s ‘Lil Opal. It’s a farmhouse saison, with a funky nose, but a very mild taste.  It’s wheaty, with hints of citrus and apricot, and almost no phenolic kick.  Since it’s a Small Beer with only 3-4% alcohol, it’s also perfect refresher the […]

Taste of the Nation Dinner

Last night, I was lucky enough to attend the Taste of the Nation Reception at AT&T Park in San Francisco (thanks Foodbuzz!)  The reception was a who’s who of the San Francisco restaurant scene, with local chefs (and bartenders) onhand to share samples of some of their finest foods. Some of my favorite bites included the pork croquettes from Maverick, […]

MSF Bacon Soup Dumplings

I love soup dumplings.  Also known as “Shanghai” dumplings, these little dumplings are filled with delicious soup and ground pork.  Think about it – while deconstruction and miniaturized tasting portions have become all the rage in fancy restaurants these days, the Chinese have been doing just this for ages, long before there were sous vide machines or food blogs to […]

18 Reasons Homebrew Tasting

The 18 Reasons homebrew tasting was quite the success. I arrived at seven, to find the small space already packed with excited beer drinkers.  After unpacking my brews, they seemed to be gone before I knew it.  The biggest hit of the beers I brought seemed to be my latest brew, a Mai Bock.  A traditional […]

Bison Beer Dinner in Berkeley

Looking for a beer dinner to attend this Wednesday, April 22nd?  Bison Brewing is teaming up with Venus Restaurant in Berkeley for an Earth Day Dinner.   Venus is preparing a four course springtime menu that highlights Bison’s organic beers. The dish I’m most excited about: seared buffalo, in a Bison Chocolate Stout sauce.  The barleywine carmel for desert […]

Want Some Homebrew?

This Thursday, I’ll be pouring homebrew at 18 Reasons for a Beer and Cheese tasting.  It should be a good time  – there will be great homebrew and cheeses from Bi-Rite.  Rob of PFIFF! will be contributing as well, and if they’re anything like the homebrew of his I tasted this past weekend, Bi-Rite better be kicking […]

Beer Wars Movie

I’ll be at the “Live” premiere this Thursday April 16th in San Francisco.  Now the question is, what kind of beer should I sneak into the theatre?

Cleaning Out Jay’s Fridge

Aaaaaand we’re back.         Sorry things have been so quiet round these parts.  Life has just been a little busy and a lot of crazy lately here at Beer & Nosh HQ, and the blog posting schedule has suffered for it. There are big changes coming down the pipeline for B&N  – […]
